Report: Aston Villa launch deadline-day move for Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert

Aston Villa have reportedly made a late move on transfer deadline day to sign Rickie Lambert from fellow Premier League side Liverpool.

Lambert, 32, has made just five Premier League starts this season for Liverpool since joining his boyhood club from Southampton last summer.

According to The Telegraph this evening, Villa have made a bid of around £5m for the England international.

Liverpool are said to have turned down several loan enquiries regarding Lambert in the transfer window, but Villa's concrete offer could tempt them to sell.

Villa are in desperate need of a boost up front having gone a club-record six league games without a goal.
