Liverpool transfer news: 25y/o star reaches 'verbal agreement' with Reds

PL star reaches 'verbal agreement' with Liverpool, talks continue between clubs

Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak has reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Liverpool over joining them in the summer transfer window.

The Premier League champions are one of the high spenders this summer, taking their cash-splashing spree to over £250m after signing seven new players.

Despite signing Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike on big-money deals this summer, the Reds are still looking to add more quality in their attacking ranks, and they are reportedly ready to smash their transfer record again to sign Isak.

The 25-year-old has made his feelings clear to Newcastle that he wants to explore new opportunities, and he has not travelled to Asia with his teammates for the pre-season tour.

Newcastle are demanding a fee in the north of £150m and have started looking for alternatives already, with RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko being reportedly targeted

Isak gives his verbal nod for summer transfer

According to Florian Plettenberg, Isak has reached a 'verbal agreement' with Liverpool over a contract running until 2031.

The Sky Deutschland journalist claims that the Swedish striker wants to move to Anfield at the earliest, and the two clubs are in contact over reaching an agreement.

Isak was reportedly offered a whopping £600,000 a week tax-free by Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, but the former Real Sociedad striker wants to continue in Europe, and he can expect a similar pay package to that of Ekitike at Liverpool.

Liverpool can afford to spend big to sign Isak

Signing Isak, who scored 23 goals in the Premier League in the 2024-25 campaign, will easily take Liverpool's spending beyond the £400m barrier, but they would still be well clear of PSR limits.

This shows that they are a well-run club, and the Reds will be further financially boosted after selling Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich

Liverpool are still likely to sign another centre-back this summer after selling Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen, and they have been reportedly linked with a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi

The Reds could offload the likes of Darwin Nunez, Federico Chiesa and Harvey Elliott this summer, while either Andy Robertson or Kostas Tsimikas can depart following the arrival of Milos Kerkez.
