Liverpool learn Marc Guehi transfer decision as Crystal Palace eye move for Reds attacker?

Major update: Liverpool learn Guehi transfer decision ahead of January window?

Liverpool have reportedly received a major update in their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi.

The 24-year-old is also said to be attracting interest from Manchester City, who are looking for significant reinforcements during the January window.

Guehi has continued to impress in a Palace side who have struggled in their first full season under the stewardship of Oliver Glasner in 2024-25.

The England international has started 18 top-flight contests for the Eagles, scoring twice and providing one assist from a back-three position.

Since making the switch across the capital from Chelsea during the summer of 2021, Guehi has featured on 133 occasions for Palace, scoring seven goals.

Liverpool handed major boost in Guehi race?

According to The Sun, Liverpool have been given a significant boost in the race for the services of Crystal Palace and England star Guehi.

The report states that the 24-year-old has made Anfield his preferred destination ahead of the upcoming January window, in which clubs will scour the market for bargains.

It is understood that Guehi is open to departing Selhurst Park in the New Year, although the defender will supposedly fall short of pushing for a move.

The Three Lions man is allegedly holding out for a high-profile switch to a Champions League club in order to continue his progression in the game.

Palace are looking to snatch a player off the Reds should they sell Guehi to the Merseyside club, with youngster Ben Doak of interest to the Eagles.

Such news will come as a blow to Newcastle United, who made three bids for Guehi during the recent summer transfer window in an attempt to bring the centre-back to the North-East.

Guehi's big opportunity

Turning 25 in July next year, Guehi is slowly approaching the prime years of his career, with his next decision regarding a club absolutely vital amid a host of interest from Premier League giants.

Although Virgil van Dijk remains a key part of the plans at Anfield, Guehi should be eyeing a spot alongside the Dutchman in the short term and the title of his successor further down the line.

Playing for Arne Slot's Reds in the Premier League and Champions League regularly would almost guarantee Guehi an integral spot in Thomas Tuchel's England plans.
