Liverpool receive a financial boost in their quest to sign England international Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace this summer.

Liverpool have reportedly been alerted to the possibility of signing Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi in a cut-price deal.

Guehi has established a reputation as one of England's top centre-backs during his 145 competitive appearances as a Palace player.

The Eagles had to fend off significant interest in Guehi last summer, rejecting a number of bids from Newcastle United for one of their most prized assets.

Palace's skipper has continued to be a regular fixture in Oliver Glasner's side this season, having started all 27 of his Premier League appearances.

While he is an important part of the Palace side, there seems to be a strong possibility that he could depart the club ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.

Liverpool handed Guehi boost

Newcastle are expected to reignite their interest in the England international, while Premier League leaders Liverpool are also believed to be among his admirers.

A recent report claimed that Arne Slot's side have moved into pole position to sign the Palace centre-back this summer.

According to Football Insider, the Reds could secure Guehi's signature at a reduced fee lower than last summer's reported asking price of £75m to £80m.

The report claims that the Eagles will consider parting ways with Guehi if they receive a bid in the region of £50m to £60m this summer.

Palace's new position has been influenced by the defender's contract situation, with his current deal set to expire at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

As a result, the Eagles are wary that they could run the risk of Guehi leaving on a free transfer at the end of next season if they do not sell him this summer.

Why are Liverpool eyeing a new centre-back?

The Reds appear to be scouring the market for potential defensive additions due to the uncertainty surrounding Virgil van Dijk's future.

Netherlands international Van Dijk is out of contract at the end of the season and there are no clear signs that a new deal is imminent.

Even if Van Dijk stays put, the Reds could still look to bolster their centre-back options, especially as Ibrahima Konate is set to enter the final 12 months of his Liverpool.
