Jamie Carragher: 'Raheem Sterling risking relationship with fans'

Jamie Carragher encourages Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling to quickly resolve his contract issue at the club.

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has warned Raheem Sterling that his ongoing contract saga could end up ruining his relationship with the club's supporters.

The 20-year-old's current deal at Anfield does not expire until 2017, but the Reds are known to be eager to tie the winger down to extended terms.

However, amid links with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester City, the England international has been seemingly reluctant to accept Liverpool's offer, with manager Brendan Rodgers having recently admitted that talks had stalled.

Speaking about the situation, Carragher admitted that the situation must be resolved one way or the other swiftly.

"The fans' frustration comes from his contract situation. The longer it continues the more frustration there will be and it paints him and his advisors in a bad light," he wrote on Kicca.

"We all like to maximise what we can earn in any industry but his standoff won't help his relationship with the fans."

Sterling joined Liverpool as a trainee from Queens Park Rangers back in 2010.
