Liverpool defender Daniel Agger: 'We needed to keep Luis Suarez'

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger says that it was important for the club to keep hold of striker Luis Suarez.

Liverpool defender Daniel Agger believes that the club will be even stronger this season because they have been able to keep hold of striker Luis Suarez.

The controversial Uruguayan publicly stated earlier in the summer that he wanted to leave Anfield for a Champions League club following interest from Arsenal.

Liverpool remained firm on their stance that Suarez was not for sale, which caused the Gunners to end their pursuit, and while Real Madrid were linked with a late bid, the Reds managed to fend off interest by the close of the window.

"It was good that we could keep Suarez," Agger told Danish daily BT. "Everyone who knows his qualities on the pitch, knows that he is a player we need."

Reports have emerged suggesting that Arsenal may try to sign Suarez in the January transfer window.
