Brendan Rodgers hopes Jordon Ibe will inspire young British players

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers believes that Jordon Ibe's performance in the Merseyside derby proves that emerging British talent can succeed in the Premier League.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that Jordon Ibe's performance against Everton on Saturday shows that emerging British talent can succeed in the Premier League.

The 19-year-old winger, who was loaned out to Derby County earlier this season, put in an assured display in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park and almost scored with a strike from distance that hit the post.

Rodgers hinted that the emergence of homegrown players at other clubs, such as Harry Kane and Danny Ings, is proof that they can have a positive impact in the top flight.

"Maybe I have too much belief in young players, but I see enough on day to day to know the character of the player," he told the Liverpool Echo. "I think there is just part of me that thinks you never know until you throw in a young player and it doesn't matter what the game is.

"If you believe in them enough and they have the tactical awareness of the game and collectively they know the team is with them, it can really push them on in their development.

"It is easy for me to put an experienced player in, but you look at the talent on show with some of the British boys."

Ibe has made three appearances for Liverpool since returning from Derby.
