Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet insists that his team can catch Manchester City in the Premier League, despite the 12-point gap between the two teams.

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has insisted that his team can catch Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Twelve points currently separate fifth-placed Liverpool from league leaders City after 11 games of the 2017-18 campaign.

The Reds suffered a 5-0 defeat when they travelled to the Etihad Stadium in September, but Mignolet has claimed that the "busy winter period" will allow them the chance to recover some points.

"City are doing really well at this time. They've got loads of quality. But like always the Premier League is a long journey, there's a long way to go," Mignolet told reporters.

"After that win at West Ham we closed the gap [on others]. In the busy winter period anything can happen. It's up to us to be challengers and that's what we'll try to do."

Liverpool will look to build on their 4-1 win over West Ham United last time out when they host Southampton after the international break.
