Dirk Kuyt has said that Liverpool need to improve against smaller opposition if they are to secure a top-four place.

The Reds suffered a 1-0 defeat to Fulham on Monday, and Kuyt believes that it was the sort of game that Liverpool need to win in order to progress.

"It's a huge disappointment but we need to keep going, look at ourselves and improve," Kuyt said.

"We want top four and to do that we need to win these type of games.

"We just didn't have the luck on our side and it was a frustrating night."

Liverpool are currently seventh in the Premier League with 23 points from 14 games.
