New Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp denies Bayern Munich speculation

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp insists that he never set his sights on becoming manager of Bayern Munich after leaving Borussia Dortmund.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has dismissed speculation that linked him with a move to Bayern Munich.

The 48-year-old was confirmed as the manager of the Reds on Thursday after he penned a three-year contract to replace Brendan Rodgers at the club.

Reports suggested that Klopp had set his sights on becoming Bayern boss once Pep Guardiola vacated the role, but the German has insisted that he never spoke to the Bundesliga champions and is adamant that Liverpool were his first choice.

When asked if he was interested in replacing Guardiola at Bayern, Klopp told Sky Sports News: "No, actually I don't know anything about that and this is not relevant to me. Bayern is a fantastic club but I don't go on holidays and wait for someone to call me.

"I have done many things that I found interesting and exciting and I have used the time to meet loads of great people and I would have met many more.

"I never had a certain career plan and I can assure that I never talked to Bayern Munich. I also hope that Guardiola will stay there for another 10 years. I didn't want to train many clubs. Of course I had concrete offers but Liverpool is the only club I have actually spoken to."

Klopp's first match in charge of the Reds will be against Tottenham Hotspur next Saturday.
