Coutinho: 'I enjoy new Liverpool role'

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho says that he is enjoying playing in a deeper role in Jurgen Klopp's side this season.

Liverpool midfielder Philippe Coutinho has suggested that he is enjoying the challenge of being used in a new position this season.

Rather than being deployed as part of a front three, Coutinho has regularly featured behind a trio of attackers and still managed nine goals and six assists in all competitions.

The Brazilian playmaker, who is said to be a target for Barcelona in January, feels that he has adapted to his change in role and is looking to improve his performances throughout the remaining months of the campaign.

The 25-year-old told the club's official website: "I think playing there is a position where you get to play the ball a great deal. You become more involved in the game. It's a position that I feel that I've adapted to and I like it.

"Of course, I'm always trying to improve and be able to score goals and set off moves because my position demands that.

"Last season there were a number of goals and it was the highest that I've ever managed. But with each year I try and develop and I hope to improve that. I'd always like to score more goals."

Coutinho was only named as a substitute as Liverpool were held by Everton in the Merseyside derby on Sunday afternoon.
