Nathaniel Clyne: 'Jurgen Klopp told us to win Premier League title'

Nathaniel Clyne reveals that Jurgen Klopp has told his Liverpool players that he wants to win the Premier League title in his time at the club.

Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne has revealed that Jurgen Klopp has told his players that he wants to win the Premier League title in his time at the club.

Klopp has presided over two draws in his first two games in all competitions since replacing Brendan Rodgers earlier this month, but a win over Southampton on Sunday could see the club rise as high as sixth in the table.

Clyne said that the former Borussia Dortmund manager has already increased the intensity of training at the club and the players' work-rate since his arrival, and insists that the Reds squad can benefit from the German's style of play.

"The manager told us in our first meeting that we have got to be a team of mentally-strong machines and that he wants to win the title during his time here," the defender told The Mirror.

"In the last couple of games our work-rate has gone up and I think that we are creating more opportunities. The manager showed us video clips of him coaching his past team and how they closed down as a team.

"Basically, he has told us that is what he wants us to do. Everyone knows how he wants us to play. He wants us to press players high up the pitch and not allow our opponents to breathe."

Liverpool, who have not won a league title in 25 years, face Southampton at Anfield on Sunday.
