Brendan Rodgers praises "brilliant" Liverpool players after edging Blackburn Rovers

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers hails his "brilliant" players for seeing off Blackburn Rovers in Wednesday night's FA Cup quarter-final replay at Ewood Park.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised his players for seeing off Blackburn Rovers in Wednesday night's FA Cup quarter-final replay at Ewood Park, singling out Philippe Coutinho for his winning goal.

The Reds were held to a goalless draw by their Championship opponents a month ago, but were able to secure a narrow 1-0 win in Lancashire thanks to Coutinho's skilful low drive.

Rodgers told BBC Sport: "Over the two games it was a difficult tie. They are strong and well organised. We knew it would be difficult. But my players were brilliant. We created chances.

"Regarding the goal, Philippe is wonderful at that. He sucks defenders in. He showed great technique and it was a great goal to win the game."

The FA Cup semi-final between Liverpool and Aston Villa will take place on Sunday, April 19.
