Watch: Thibaut Courtois howler gifts Mohamed Salah record-breaking goal

A howler from Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois gifted Liverpool a second goal in the opening 15 minutes of their Champions League clash at Anfield this evening.

The Reds had already taken the lead inside five minutes of the last-16 first leg courtesy of a cheeky flick from Darwin Nunez.

The home side's dream start got even better just 10 minutes later as Mohamed Salah was gifted a second by Courtois.

The Belgian, who was named man of the match when the two sides met in the 2021-22 Champions League final, collected the ball from an untidy backpass and was looking around for his options while Salah closed him down.

However, before he could get a pass away, the ball bounced off the knee of his standing leg and straight to Salah, who duly tucked it away.

The goal was the Egyptian's 42nd in European football for Liverpool, surpassing the club record held by 2005 Champions League-winning captain Steven Gerrard.

Salah has also now moved on to 44 Champions League goals in total, drawing level with Chelsea legend Didier Drogba as the highest-scoring African in the competition's history.
