Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Ajax

Liverpool injury, suspension list vs. Ajax

Liverpool will aim to right the wrongs of last week when they welcome Ajax to Anfield on Tuesday for the second round of the 2022-23 Champions League in Group A.

Jurgen Klopp's side were torn to shreds in a 4-1 defeat to Napoli last week, as Piotr Zielinski hit a brace alongside goals from Giovanni Simeone and Andre Zambo Anguissa.

The struggling Reds did not have the chance to gain some momentum ahead of this crunch clash, as their Premier League tie with Wolverhampton Wanderers was suspended following Queen Elizabeth II's death.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the clash with Ajax, who ran out 4-0 winners over Rangers last week.

Andy Robertson

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: October 1 (vs. Brighton & Hove Albion)

Andy Robertson picked up a knee injury in the dying embers of the defeat to Napoli, and the left-back has been ruled out of this contest.

Caoimhin Kelleher

Status: Major doubt Type of injury: Groin Possible return date: September 13 (vs. Ajax)

Caoimhin Kelleher continues to struggle with a groin issue and was not present with the squad to face Napoli, so it remains to be seen if the backup goalkeeper will finally shake off the problem in time for the visit of Ajax.

Ibrahima Konate

Status: Out Type of injury: Knee Possible return date: October 1 (vs. Brighton & Hove Albion)

Ibrahima Konate remains sidelined with the knee injury that he suffered against Strasbourg in pre-season, and Klopp expects the centre-back to return to fitness following the international break.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Status: Out Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: Unknown

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain's thigh injury is confirmed to be keeping him out for a "while", and it could be a matter of weeks or months before the English midfielder returns to the pitch.

Naby Keita

Status: Out Type of injury: Thigh Possible return date: October 1 (vs. Brighton & Hove Albion)

Despite also being sidelined with a thigh problem, Naby Keita has been called up to the Guinea squad for the upcoming international break, so a return to action in early October is not beyond the realm of possibility.

Jordan Henderson

Status: Out Type of injury: Hamstring Possible return date: October 1 (vs. Brighton & Hove Albion)

The hamstring injury that Jordan Henderson picked up against Newcastle United will not keep him out for months on end, but it is serious enough to render him unavailable until after the international break.

Fabio Carvalho

Status: Minor doubt Type of injury: Dead leg Possible return date: September 13 (vs. Ajax)

Fabio Carvalho was not in the travelling party for the loss to Napoli after suffering a dead leg against Everton in the Merseyside derby, but the 20-year-old should have a good chance of returning for this one.

Curtis Jones

Status: Out Type of injury: Shin Possible return date: Unknown

Klopp confirmed last week that Curtis Jones has suffered a recurrence of a shin injury, and with the Reds boss affirming that great care was needed over the issue, the midfielder looks set to miss out this week.
