Georgia vs Cape Verde - prediction, team news, lineups

Georgia will attempt to claim a fourth consecutive victory when they welcome Cape Verde to Kutaisi for Sunday’s friendly encounter.

Meanwhile, the visitors will be looking to record back-to-back wins after getting the better of Malaysia in their most recent outing.

Match preview

Georgia’s most recent competitive assignment took place in March when they faced Armenia in a Nations League relegation/promotion playoff.

The Crusaders followed a commanding 3-0 away win with a dominant 6-1 victory in the home leg to preserve their place in League B.

Georgia will now have one eye on the start of their World Cup qualifying campaign in September, with Willy Sagnol’s side set to compete in a tricky group with Spain, Turkey and Bulgaria.

They are on course to take momentum into their qualifying bid after following their two wins over Armenia with a narrow 1-0 victory in Thursday’s friendly against the Faroe Islands, courtesy of Luka Lochoshvili’s first-half effort.

Georgia will fancy their chances of picking up another positive result on Sunday, having won six, drawn three and lost just one of their last 10 home internationals.

Cape Verde will be pleased with their results in 2025, having won three of their four matches in the current calendar year, including two World Cup qualifiers in March.

Bubista’s side recorded a narrow 1-0 home win over Mauritius, before they edged out Angola via a 2-1 scoreline to put themselves one point clear at the top of Group D with four games left to play in the second stage of qualifying.

The Blue Sharks will pick up their qualifying bid in September, but they are currently keeping themselves ticking over with three friendly fixtures.

Cape Verde have already played two of those three matches in the international window, playing out a 1-1 draw with Malaysia before clinching a 3-0 win against the same opponent a few days later.

They will be hoping to produce another strong display in their first meeting with Georgia, with the visitors looking to make it five games without defeat since losing to Mauritania in November.

Team News

Georgia have opted to leave out a number of key players for the current international window, including Giorgi Mamardashvili, Giorgi Chakvetadze, Georges Mikautadze and Champions League winner Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

They are also unable to call upon midfielder Giorgi Zaria and forward Budu Zivzivadze after the pair withdrew from the squad due to injury.

Vladimer Mamuchashvili, Davit Volkovi and Giorgi Beridze may be in the thinking for starting spots after playing nearly half-an-hour in the win over the Faroe Islands.

As for the visitors, they could line up with a back four of Sidny Lopes Cabral, Logan Costa, Yuran Fernandes and Steven Moreira

Cape Verde’s all-time record appearance holder, Ryan Mendes, should don the captain’s armband for Sunday’s friendly against Georgia.

In the final third, Hellas Verona striker Dailon Rocha Livramento could be given the chance to lead Cape Verde's attacking efforts.

Georgia possible starting lineup:

Loria; Gocholeishvili, Gvelesiani, Dvali, Lochoshvili; Gagnidze, Mamuchashvili; Beridze, Guliashvili, Lobjanidze; Volkovi

Cape Verde possible starting lineup:

Vozinha; Lopes Cabral, Costa, Fernandes, Moreira; Duarte, A. Tavares, Cueni; Mendes, Cabral, Rocha Livramento

We say: Georgia 1-1 Cape Verde

Cape Verde have proven to be a tough team to beat in recent times, and we think that they will do enough to extend their unbeaten run to five matches by holding Georgia to a draw in Sunday's friendly encounter.
