National League roundup: Cheltenham Town stay top

Sports Mole rounds up Saturday afternoon's action in the National League as Cheltenham Town remain top with a 2-0 win at Aldershot Town.

Cheltenham Town have maintained their one-point lead over Forest Green Rovers at the top of the National League table with a 2-0 win away at Aldershot Town.

Goals from Harry Pell and Jack Munns secured the points for Cheltenham, but Forest Green kept within touching distance after two goals from Jon Parkin earned his side a 2-0 win against nine-man Altrincham.

Grimsby Town remain third after a second-half effort from Padraig Amond earned the Mariners a narrow success against Kidderminster Harriers, while Lincoln City sit in fourth after drawing 1-1 with Welling United.

Eastleigh complete the top five after they edged past Southport, but Dover Athletic have lost ground after slipping up at Halifax Town.

Sean Tuton continued his recent good form in front of goal with two strikes to help the Shaymen to a 4-2 triumph.

Macclesfield Town have overtaken Wrexham to move into seventh place after a double from Kristian Dennis helped the visitors to a 3-2 win at the Racecourse Ground.

At the other end of the table, Torquay United are third bottom after a goalless draw at Braintree Town, while Boreham Wood were also involved in a stalemate with Tranmere Rovers.

New Gateshead manager Neil Aspin got off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory at home to Chester FC, while Barrow, also under new management, beat Woking by a 2-1 scoreline.

The other game of the afternoon saw Guiseley return to form with a 2-0 win against Bromley thanks to goals from Oliver Norburn and Anthony Dudley.
