FC Utrecht, Heerenveen share the spoils

FC Utrecht and Heerenveen have played out a 1-1 draw in their Eredivisie clash at the Stadion Galgenwaard.

The visitors were quickest off the starting blocks when Simon Thern bore down on goal five minutes in and forced a smart save from opposition goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter.

Nevertheless, it was Utrecht to draw first blood with five minutes left in the first half as Lucas Bijker's handball gifted the hosts a penalty, which was smartly converted by Sebastien Haller.

Heerenveen continued to probe forward and were rewarded just nine minutes from time when Henk Veerman's saved shot was smashed home on the rebound by Luciano Slagveer.

Utrecht's first point of their Eredivisie season sees them climb to 10th in the table, while Heerenveen rise to sixth with four points from two games.
