Everton in talks for River Plate star Ramiro Funes Mori

Everton are in talks with River Plate over a possible deal for defender Ramiro Funes Mori, according to a report.

Everton are reportedly in negotiations to sign Ramiro Funes Mori from South American champions River Plate.

The 24-year-old was a key player as River won the Copa Libertadores and Argentina's Primera Division this year.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Toffees boss Roberto Martinez has earmarked Mori to help fill the void left by the departures of Sylvain Distin and Antolin Alcaraz this summer.

It is thought that the Argentine international could provide competition to the central defensive pairing of John Stones and Phil Jagielka.

Everton are believed to have sent scouts to watch Mori in action for River over recent months.
