Albion Rovers thump Elgin City to move second in League Two

Albion Rovers have moved second in Scotland's League Two after thumping bottom-of-the-table Elgin City 4-0 at Borough Briggs tonight.

Scott Chaplain was responsible for the bulk of that haul by grabbing a first-half brace as Darren Young's side leapfrog Queen's Park to move seven points behind leaders Arbroath.

Elgin went into the clash knowing that a point would be good enough to lift them off the foot of the division.

However, Barry Wilson's side got off to a miserable start as goals from Chaplain and Mark Dunlop gave the hosts an uphill task after just 11 minutes played.

Chaplain then netted his second of the evening just after the half-hour mark to help Albion into a seemingly unassailable lead at the break.

If Elgin were not already beaten, then Gary Phillips added a fourth on 56 minutes to kill any hopes of a dramatic comeback as Albion kept the pressure on Arbroath at the summit.
