Louis van Gaal is one of only six managers to have won both the European Cup/Champions League and UEFA Cup/Europa League during his coaching career.
The Dutchman, who celebrates his 74th birthday today, lifted the UEFA Cup with Ajax in 1991-92, before winning the Champions League with the same club in 1994-95.
Van Gaal's managerial career started back in September 1991, and he would go on to take charge of almost 300 games for Ajax, winning three Eredivisie titles, one Dutch Cup, the Champions League, the UEFA Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup during a hugely successful period.
The legendary head coach then managed Barcelona twice either side of a spell with the Netherlands, and he managed to win two La Liga titles, the Copa del Rey and the UEFA Super Cup during his time at Camp Nou.
More success followed at AZ, lifting the Eredivisie title for a fourth time in his managerial career in 2009, before landing three trophies during his time at Bayern Munich, including a domestic double in 2009-10.
Van Gaal has actually had three spells in charge of the Netherlands during his managerial career, the last of which took place between August 2021 and December 2022.
However, he has not been in charge of a club team since Manchester United, leading the Red Devils between July 2014 and May 2016, winning the FA Cup during his time at the helm.
The former Barcelona head coach is part of a very exclusive list of managers when it comes to European trophies, but can you name the other five head coaches on the particular list?
