Chelsea 'extend Giroud's contract until June 2021'

Chelsea have reportedly triggered an extension clause in Olivier Giroud's contract.

The France international's existing deal with the Blues is due to expire at the end of June, and it has been claimed that Inter Milan have already agreed a move for the 2018 World Cup winner.

However, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea have decided to extend the striker's contract until next summer, meaning that he is no longer available on a free transfer.

Giroud could still leave Stamford Bridge ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, but the London club would now be due a transfer fee if he were to seek pastures new.

The 33-year-old has struggled to secure regular action during the current season, making just 13 appearances in all competitions, contributing three goals in the process.

In all, the forward has netted 21 times in 76 appearances for his current club.
