Liverpool saw their top-four hopes all but ended despite a 1-1 draw with newly-crowned champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this afternoon.

The hosts took the lead after just five minutes when John Terry nodded home a corner, but Steven Gerrard levelled things up with a header of his own on the stroke of half time.

Here, Sports Mole looks at who stood out during an entertaining clash in West London.

CHELSEA

Goal

Thibaut Courtois: Nothing he could have done about Gerrard's equaliser from close range. Made a smart save to prevent a Sterling cross from sneaking in at his near post, but most of his other work was routine. (6/10)

Defence

Branislav Ivanovic: Partially at fault for the Liverpool equaliser having dragged Lallana down to concede the free kick. Was also beaten by Johnson down his flank on a shakier afternoon than usual. (6/10)

Kurt Zouma: Looked solid and assured during his time on the field, but only lasted 35 minutes before being forced off through injury. (6/10)

John Terry: Shows no signs of letting up in arguably his best season yet. Got the early goal to put his side ahead, becoming the highest-scoring defender in Premier League history in the process. Was also as tight as ever at the back, comfortably dealing with Lambert. (7/10)

Filipe Luis: Did not show much to suggest that he can permanently oust Azpilicueta from the starting XI. Did keep Sterling relatively quiet, though. (6/10)

Midfield

Ruben Loftus-Cheek: Made his full debut for Chelsea and will be pleased that it went smoothly. Did not do anything spectacular, but plodded along in the middle of the park nicely and ended his time on the field with a 100% pass completion rate. (6/10)

John Obi Mikel: Looked comfortable in the first half but was overrun at times in the second. Lost Gerrard at the back post to allow the Liverpool skipper an easy finish for the equaliser. Matic's place is not under threat. (5/10)

Willian: Was as busy as ever, working hard both on and off the ball to help his side's cause. Needed to be more clinical in the final third, though, failing to make the most of some good positions. (6/10)

Cesc Fabregas: Influential in the first half especially, pulling the strings for his side and revelling in a more advanced role. Grabbed a personal-best 18th assist of the season with the corner for Terry, although he was a little fortunate to get away with a nasty challenge on Sterling inside two minutes. (7/10)

Eden Hazard: Probably his worst game of the season. Nothing seemed to come off for the Belgian today, but it was not through a lack of trying. It simply did not happen for the PFA Player of the Year. (5/10)

Attack

Loic Remy: Compared to Costa's battles with Skrtel this season, Remy would have been a walk in the park for the Liverpool defender. Nowhere near involved enough and failed to pose a serious threat to Mignolet's goal. (5/10)

Substitutes

Gary Cahill: Came on for the injured Zouma with 10 minutes of the first half remaining and, Gerrard's equaliser aside, looked as solid as ever alongside Terry. (6/10)

Nemanja Matic: Replaced Loftus-Cheek on the hour mark as Mourinho sensed that Liverpool were winning the midfield battle. Helped to disrupt the visitors' rhythm and gave Chelsea a stronger foothold in the game. (6/10)

Juan Cuadrado: Only handed six minutes at the end and did not have a chance to make an impact. (6/10)

LIVERPOOL

Goal

Simon Mignolet: Always looked to come off his line and relieve the pressure on his defence. Managed to do that most of the time, but did misjudge one clearance and was fortunate that the ball only went behind for a corner. (6/10)

Defence

Emre Can: Continues to struggle when it comes to defensive work at right-back, and was lucky that Hazard was not at the races today. Improved in the second half, though, and is always a confident player in possession of the ball. (6/10)

Martin Skrtel: Had no Costa to battle against today but still made a number of important tackles and blocks to keep Chelsea at bay during a good defensive performance. (7/10)

Dejan Lovren: Question marks remain over him and there is still a sense of unease when he is on the ball, even if he did nothing majorly wrong this afternoon. (6/10)

Glen Johnson: Got forward well down the left and made one particularly enterprising run behind Ivanovic shortly after the opening goal. Not always where he should have been defensively, though. (6/10)

Midfield

Raheem Sterling: Improved performance from the winger, who caused Chelsea problems in the second half with his pace and dribbling. (7/10)

Jordan Henderson: Picked up the assist for Gerrard's goal with a good free kick to the back post, but otherwise struggled to really impose himself on the match. (6/10)

Steven Gerrard: Got the equalising goal on his final Stamford Bridge appearance, nodding a simple finish past Courtois. It was an otherwise unspectacular display from the skipper, but he did receive a standing ovation from all inside the ground when he was taken off with 10 minutes to go. (7/10)

Philippe Coutinho: Liverpool's most dangerous player yet again, particularly in the second half when he began to find more pockets of space, helping his side to take the game to Chelsea. (7/10)

Adam Lallana: Was anonymous during the first half, struggling to get on the ball and link up with Lambert. Did improve a little in the second, but was taken off before he could really make a difference. (5/10)

Attack

Rickie Lambert: Struggled at both ends of the field, beaten in the air by Terry for the Chelsea goal and posing very little danger to Courtois. Did not have the pace to trouble the Chelsea defence. (5/10)

Substitutes

Jerome Sinclair: Came on for his Premier League debut having been preferred in the squad to Balotelli, but it was a relatively unremarkable cameo. (6/10)

Jordon Ibe: Introduced shortly after Sinclair but, like his fellow youngster, could not make much of an impact during his time on the field. (6/10)

Lucas Leiva: Replaced Gerrard for the final 10 minutes, which may not have been the best decision for a side chasing a winner. (6/10)
