Frank Lampard praises David Luiz after his starring performance during Chelsea's 8-0 win over Aston Villa on Sunday.

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard has paid tribute to David Luiz for his performance during the side's win over Aston Villa.

The Brazilian starred at Stamford Bridge as the Blues smashed Villa 8-0 in the Premier League on Sunday.

Luiz was impressive in his new-found midfield role, and also netted a fine free kick to put Chelsea 2-0 up, much to the joy of Lampard.

"You don't see the hours people put in on the training pitch to work on that technique," said Lampard.

"David has done it and now you are seeing the rewards because every time we get one in that area you fancy him to get it on target.

"He has the ability to play either position and he has been a fantastic defender at this club. People say that central midfield is also a role for him and I think they are right, you still have to have discipline and be in the right position and you can't take liberties, and against Villa he showed that he has the discipline and the ability to do that role."

Chelsea travel to Norwich City on Boxing Day.
