Chelsea to appeal Thibaut Courtois suspension

Chelsea will appeal against the one-match ban handed to Thibaut Courtois in the hope that he will be available to face Manchester City next weekend.

Chelsea will appeal against the red card shown to goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois in Saturday's meeting with Swansea City.

The Belgium international was dismissed after bringing down Bafetimbi Gomis when the striker was through on goal.

Courtois faces the prospect of missing Chelsea's crucial Premier League clash against Manchester City next weekend, should the decision be upheld at Tuesday's case hearing.

Summer signing Asmir Begovic stepped in for the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper in the 2-2 draw against Swansea, and is expected to start at the Etihad if the one-match ban is not rescinded.
