Adam Matthews hoping for Joe Ledley stay

Celtic defender Adam Matthews is hopeful that Joe Ledley will sign a new long-term contract with the Scottish champions.

Celtic defender Adam Matthews has revealed that he is desperate for teammate Joe Ledley to sign a new long-term contract with the Scottish champions.

Ledley's current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, with Crystal Palace one of a number of clubs linked with the midfielder's services.

However, Matthews is hopeful that his fellow Welshman will put pen to paper in the coming weeks.

"I think he will stay. I am hoping so. He is a great player for us and a good mate of mine so I am sure if they give him the right contract he will sign. He loves it here, his family loves it up here," he told reporters at a press conference.

Ledley has 50 Wales caps to his name.
