Shrewsbury Town, Carlisle United reach agreement to extend Mark Ellis loan

Mark Ellis is to stay at Carlisle United until the new year after agreeing to prolong his loan spell from Shrewsbury Town.

Shrewsbury Town have agreed to let defender Mark Ellis stay at Carlisle United until the start of January.

The 27-year-old has made six appearances for the Cumbrians since joining last month, including a standout display against hometown club Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup.

Ellis will now continue his regular playing time at Brunton Park into the new year, with manager Keith Curle quick to voice his delight at the loan extension.

"Mark has settled well here and he's a player who looks like he's enjoying his football," Curle told the club's official website. "He's versatile and has shown us he is able to play as part of a back three, four or five.

"He was with a team which got promoted out of this division last season and he has a good amount of experience in a key position on the pitch.

"He's said himself that he thinks there's even more to come and he's the type of character we want to have around. We like having him here as much as he likes being here and this spell gives him a real chance to stake a claim to get more games under his belt."

Ellis joined Shrewsbury last summer after being released by Crewe Alexandra, making 47 appearances for the club before being sent out on loan at the beginning of October.
