Live coverage of the first round Capital One Cup match between Carlisle United and Blackburn Rovers at Brunton Park.

Carlisle United secured a place in the second round of the Capital One Cup this evening, beating Blackburn Rovers on penalties.

David Amoo gave the League One side the lead after just 14 minutes, but a strong second-half spell saw Gary Bowyer's side edge ahead, before Lewis Guy equalised seven minutes later.

Extra-time efforts from Amoo and Alan Judge ensured that the game headed to penalties, with the home side missing just once, compared to the Championship side's two failed efforts.

Read how all the action unfolded below:

7.01pmGood evening! It's around 45 minutes until kickoff at Brunton Park, and both sides have already announced their teams for the match, with four players making their debuts for the visitors. Let's take a look at the teams...

7.02pmCARLISLE STARTING XI: Gillespie, Potts, Livesey, Thirwell, James, Amoo, Berrett, Noble, Gillies, Beck, Guy

7.03pmBLACKBURN STARTING XI: Eastwood, Kane, Songo'o, Givet, Morris, Taylor, Marrow, Cairney, Olsson, Dunn, King

7.06pmSo that's eight changes from the weekend for Blackburn, with first-time appearances for Simon Eastwood, on-loan midfielder Tom Cairney, Chris Taylor and Yann Songo'o, who only received international clearance this afternoon.

7.08pmCarlisle come into the match off the back of a 5-1 thrashing in their season-opener against Leyton Orient at the weekend. However, the hosts have made just two changes to their starting lineup for this evening's cup tie.

7.11pmLet's also take a look at the benches for tonight's game.

CARLISLE SUBS: Fleming, Edwards, Todd, Symington, Salmon, Lynch, Brough

BLACKBURN SUBS: Kean, Lowe, Best, Rhodes, Judge, O'Connor, Fabio Nunes

7.15pmBlackburn manager Gary Bowyer isn't taking his side's League One opponents lightly. He told the team's website: "It is going to be a difficult challenge away at Carlisle. I know that they got beat at the weekend, but they had a player sent off so we can't read too much into that result. We know that they'll be gunning for us so it is important that we recover quickly and get ready for it."

7.18pmCarlisle manager Greg Abbott is hoping for an improved performance from his team: He told the club's official website: "This will be a tough game because they have some fantastic players. We have to do our best to bridge the gap and give our fans plenty to smile about. We need to regain the confidence of the supporters and we can only do that by giving a much better performance. To be honest, we could play against Barcelona tonight and I would still expect a massive improvement on what we saw on Saturday. The fans deserve that at the very least."

7.21pmThis will be the first meeting between these two clubs since 1986. They've met twice before in the League Cup, with Carlisle taking victory on both occasions, which were in the 1960s.

7.24pmCarlisle will be hoping that Blackburn's poor away form in this competition in recent seasons continues this evening. The Ewood Park outfit have lost their last four away games in the tournament, most recently losing 2-1 at MK Dons last year.

7.28pmBlackburn are previous winners of this tournament, having beaten Tottenham Hotspur in the final during the 2001-02 season. Carlisle's best showing in the League Cup to date is a semi-final appearance in the 1969-70 campaign.

7.31pmJust a reminder, in the League Cup, there are no replays. Should the scores be level at the final whistle this evening, there will be an extra 30 minutes followed by penalties if necessary.

7.35pmWith kickoff not that far away, it's time for a prediction. Unsurprisingly, it is the Championship side who are the comfortable favourites with the bookmakers this evening. However, I can see Carlisle putting up some strong resistance this evening. Bowyer should have Jordan Rhodes to call in if he needs some late fire power though. I think I'm going to go with a 2-1 win for Blackburn this evening.

7.39pmLet's also have a quick check on the weather conditions. The good news it that it's dry in Carlisle this evening, and should be remaining so for the duration of the match. There's little wind around the ground too, so generally good conditions for football.

7.42pmThere's a reasonable sized crowd at Brunton Park this evening, not quite a sell out, but there'll be plenty of support for the home side. Both teams are just heading out to the pitch ready for tonight's game.

0 minCarlisle get the first half underway.

2 minBlackburn win an early free kick as Danny Livesey wipes out Josh Morris with a reckless challenge around 20 yards out. David Dunn whips the ball into the box, with Mark Gillespie comfortably takes the ball before any of Dunn's teammates manage to get a head to it.

4 minCarlisle go on the attack as Liam Noble delivers the ball into the penalty area looking for David Amoo, who netted from the spot at the weekend. However, Markus Olsson is back to clear the ball, and Blackburn immediately look to get the ball back down the other end of the pitch.

5 minDunn takes the ball down the left wing before crossing to the right-hand side of the box for Chris Taylor, but the midfielder if ruled offside.

7 minJosh Gillies sends a dangerous looking ball into the box, and Gael Givet is forced to put it behind to give Carlisle the first corner of the game. Gillies takes the corner, but some pushing and shoving in front of the goal line sees Blackburn awarded a free kick. The hosts have played some positive football in the early stages of this game.

9 minGillies is in possession again and looking for a way through the Blackburn defence. He pulls the ball back to James Berrett on the edge of the area, but he fouls Songo'o in the air. On the counter attack, the visitors quickly win a corner. Songo'o scuffs the first effort at goal, before Taylor fires it well over the crossbar.

11 minLewis Guy looks to continue Carlisle's early pressure on their opponents goal, but Simon Eastwood comes off his line and well outside the penalty area to win Blackburn a goal kick. It was a risky move as he ended up almost at the corner flag, if Guy had beaten him, it would have been embarrassing for the keeper, but he managed to keep his cool.

13 minCHANCE! Eastwood has to make a good stop as Carlisle play the ball out from the back, with Brad Potts making a superb run down the wing before picking out Beck just inside the box, but his header lacked power, giving the Blackburn stopper time to make the save.

14 minGOAL! Carlisle 1-0 Blackburn (Amoo)

15 minIt's a clinical finish from David Amoo to give the home side a lead inside in the opening 15 minutes. From their second corner of the game, Gillies finds the 22-year-old, who nods the ball in with a textbook header. Carlisle have been really positive in the opening quarter of an hour and it's paid off.

18 minJosh King goes on the charge for Blackburn as the Championship side look to get back on level terms quickly, but Potts wins the ball back for the hosts, who appear to have grown in confidence since Amoo's goal. It's hard to believe that this is virtually the same side that let in five at the weekend.

20 minBrad Potts makes another important clearance for the home side as a ball into the box by Taylor almost falls to King. Amoo goes on the counter for the League One side, but Givet puts the ball out for a throw in.

21 minCHANCE! Amoo almost bags his second, but some sharp reactions from Eastwood see the Blackburn keeper make the save.

23 minCHANCE! At the other end, Mark Gillespie faces his first real test in the Carlisle goal this evening, as a high cross into the box almost finds Taylor, but the keeper is able to punch the ball away.

25 minCHANCE! Taylor crosses the ball in towards the Carlisle goal, but Thirwell is able to put it behind for a corner. Olsson has a strike following the corner put it's cleared, before a strike from Songo'o finishes in Gillespie's hands. Blackburn seem to have just upped the pace a little in the last couple of minutes, and are looking much more threatening for it.

27 minA good delivery in from James is marginally too high for Beck, who was waiting on the edge of the penalty area, but Amoo is behind it and looks to take the ball into the box. The danger is initially cleared by Blackburn, but Marrow concedes a corner moments later, but Carlisle can't convert it into a two-goal lead.

30 minTodd Kane takes the ball down the right wing before attempting a series of crosses towards the penalty area. Eventually he manages to find Taylor, who manages to fire it straight behind for a goal kick. To be honest, I'm not sure whether that was attempt at goal or he was looking for a teammate, as it ended up nowhere near either. A moment of madness from the midfielder.

32 minAn attempted clearance from Potts hands the ball to Olsson, who crosses into the box for Dunn, but Noble manages to head to pass back to Gillespie. Had Dunn reached the ball, that would surely have been a simple header from close range.

35 minCHANCE! Carlisle launch a quick counter attack, giving Mark Beck a sight of goal, but his strike takes a deflection before bobbling into Eastwood's hands.

37 minCHANCE! Kane crosses into the box but it's put behind for a corner. Gillespie tries to punch the ball away from the delivery, but he misses, allowing Taylor a header at an open goal, but the Blackburn man is denied by the crossbar. It's a lucky escape for Carlisle.

38 minThere could be an injury problem brewing for Blackburn as Alex Marrow appears to pull up in some pain while defending a Josh Gillies charge towards the box. He appears to have tweaked his groin during the move, but it looks like he'll continue for now.

39 minCHANCE! From a corner, James Berrett takes an ambitious strike from the edge of the area, but it's always rising and goes well high into the stands behind the goal.

41 minMarkus Olsson tries to create a chance for himself but it being closely marked by Potts, who manages to prevent him from getting the ball away before Gillespie comes off his line to claim the ball. Barring one poor clearance, Potts has been crucial at the back for Carlisle in this first half.

43 minCHANCE! Amoo almost finds the back of the net again as he gets his head to a free kick, but his finish is just wide of the post. He's really stretched the Blackburn defence so far this evening.

44 minSUB! 17-year-old Patrick Brough is on for his senior debut as Reece James has picked up an injury. The teenager is a product of the Carlisle academy.

45 minNoble stretches trying to stop King making a run for Blackburn, but gives away a free kick around 20 yards out. Cairney lines it up and curls it in, with Gillespie lining up a clearance, but he's fouled by Songo'o anyway before he has to make the save. Meanwhile, there will be just the one minute of injury time.

45+1 minHALF TIME: Carlisle United 1-0 Blackburn Rovers

8.34pmAt half time, it's the League One side who lead thanks to a 14th-minute header from David Amoo. Carlisle were the stronger side in the opening 20 minutes, but Blackburn will be disappointed not to have found an equaliser during their strong spell before half time.

8.37pmAmoo has looked particularly sharp in front of goal this evening, finding the target from Josh Gillies' cross before testing Blackburn keeper Simon Eastwood with another strike, while a third effort fell just inches wide of the post.

8.40pmThe visitors had plenty of possession in their opponents' final third, but have only tested Mark Gillespie on a couple of occasions, thanks to some solid defending from Brad Potts and Liam Noble. Chris Taylor arguably had the best chance of the half, as his header shortly before half time was denied by the crossbar.

8.42pmThere are two other Capital One Cup fixtures taking place this evening. At half time, Leeds United lead Chesterfield 2-1, having fallen behind early on, while Notts County and Fleetwood Town are level at 1-1.

8.44pmBlackburn won't be panicking yet, they still have all three substitutions to make, while Carlisle were forced into an early change following Reece James' injury.

8.46pmSUB! Blackburn are making one of those changes before the second half gets underway. Alex Marrow, who appeared to sustain a groin strain in the first half, makes way for Jason Lowe.

46 minThe second half gets underway at Brunton Park.

48 minDunn looks to create an early change for Blackburn, who have made a pacy start to the second half. He's clipped by Livesey, giving the visitors a free kick, but gets caught offside following the set piece.

50 minBlackburn look like they want to get on the attack, but Carlisle of plenty of men behind the ball and are defending well. A good clearance finds Lewis Guy inside the Blackburn half, but he keeps hold of the ball too long, and Blackburn quickly win it back.

52 minGOAL!Carlisle 1-1 Blackburn (Noble OG)

52 minCairney delivers a free kick, which looks to be heading wide until it takes a deflection off Noble and finds it's way past Gillespie.

52 minPENALTY! The visitors have a spot kick!

54 minPENALTY SAVED! Gillespie manages to read David Dunn's run and palms the ball wide. The penalty was awarded after Paul Thirwell dragged down Josh King.

56 minGOAL! Carlisle 1-2 Blackburn (Taylor)

57 minIt's been a cruel couple of minutes for Carlisle! Following the saved penalty, Blackburn immediately attack again, winning a corner, and Chris Taylor makes up for his missed header in the first half with a clinical finish from close range this time of asking.

60 minCarlisle will really have to show some character to get themselves back into this game. Having led for much of the game, a frantic six minutes has seen the visitors draw level, win a penalty and then take the lead. They haven't shown the same discipline at the back that served them so well in the first half since the second half got underway.

62 minGOAL! Carlisle 2-2 Blackburn (Guy)

63 minCarlisle win a corner, which is initially cleared by the visitors, but Beck picks it up out wide and shows some stunning footwork to get the ball back in, setting up Lewis Guy for a simple tap in, and just like that, Carlisle are right back in it.

65 minCHANCE! Blackburn almost regain their lead immediately from the restart, as Olsson tries to set up Dunn, but he smashes the ball well high. This game has completely opened up in the last 10 minutes, it's impossible to pick a winner at the moment!

67 minAfter some patient build up in midfield, Tom Cairney looks to unleash an effort from range, but it's a poor contact for the on-loan midfielder, as it goes well high of the target.

68 minKing makes a superb run for the visitors, but Thirwell is back to make the tackle, and makes up for the effort which gave Blackburn a penalty earlier, stripping the ball away from King before he can get a shot away.

71 minTaylor beats Brough with some speedy footwork near the corner flag, but his cross is put behind for a corner by Livesey. Cairney curls it in, but Gillespie comes off his line to make a confident save. It's been a mixed display from the Carlisle keeper in the second half, but that was one his better efforts.

74 minDanny Livesey appears to have picked up a knock, and heads to the sideline with the trainer. Carlisle will be hoping that he can stay on, he's been impressive at the back for the hosts this evening, and with extra time a possibility, Abbott will want to hold off making his changes.

76 minCHANCE! Blackburn win a free kick, which Cairney takes. It's a brilliant delivery, and requires a good save from Gillespie to keep it out. The visitors have a corner, but it's too deep for Songo'o to control.

78 minCHANCE! Beck, having created Carlisle's equaliser, looks to give them the lead again with a strike of his own, but his finish is blocked by Morris, before a second effort is comfortable taken by Eastwood.

81 minBlackburn try a more patient approach, building pressure from midfield before the ball eventually falls to Taylor on the edge of the area, but he can't find the target. Carlisle immediately apply pressure at the other end, with Amoo crossing the ball into the box, but there's no support up front for the hosts.

84 minCHANCE! King breaks from midfield but fails to spot that he has teammates forward with him. He goes for goal from just inside the box, but completely mis-hits his strike, wasting the chance for the visitors.

86 minLewis Guy picks up the ball in midfield and tries to break from Givet as he looks for a winner for Carlisle, but the Blackburn man does enough to take the ball away. The play is rather frantic and scrappy at the moment as both sides push for the winner.

88 minSUB! Carlisle make their second change, with David Symington replacing Josh Gillies, who has put in quite a shift this evening.

90 minBOOKING! Jason Lowe is shown the first yellow card of the evening for a clumsy challenge on Lewis Guy in midfield. Meanwhile, the fourth official shows two minutes on the board.

90+1 minCHANCE! How did he miss that?! Guy crosses the ball in for Beck, who gets a strong header to the ball, but Eastwood managed to keep it out, before Kane puts it behind for a corner.

90+2 minBOOKING! Tom Cairney is booked for dissent following Carlisle's corner.

90+4 minSymington tries a long ball forward to Guy, but it's blocked by Songo'o. Surely that will be the last action before extra time.

90+4 minFULL TIME: Carlisle United 2-2 Blackburn Rovers

9.36pmWell that was an action packed second-half, but both sets of players will have to hope they have some energy left as extra time looms. The referee is giving them sometime to grab drinks and take some fuel on board before the additional 30 minutes begin.

9.38pmCarlisle's character has been impressive. Having conceded two goals in five minutes to let their lead slip, but they kept their heads high and got back on level terms with some superb play from Beck to set up Guy for the equaliser.

9.39pmSUB! Alan Judge comes on for Markus Olsson. Both sides have one change left to make.

90 minExtra time gets underway.

91 minCarlisle are on the attack straight away, with Beck looking to get a shot away from the edge of the area. His effort is blocked but Guy keeps the ball alive, feeding it back to Amoo, but Blackburn are able to clear the danger again.

92 minFrom the clearance, Josh King has a clear run on goal, but Carlisle quickly get number back, and the Blackburn man has to wait for support, giving the hosts time to close up at the back.

93 minSUB! Blackburn make their final change and it's a pretty big one. Captain David Dunn goes off for striker Jordan Rhodes, who was Blackburn's top scorer last season.

94 minAmoo gets back to help out in defence, but fouls Chris Taylor near the corner flag, giving Blackburn a free kick from a strong area.

95 minGOAL! Carlisle 2-3 Blackburn (Judge)

96 minCairney curls the ball in beautifully from the free kick, allowing the Irishman to lash it in from close range, having only been on the pitch for five minutes.

98 minIt looks like Carlisle are getting ready to make their final change, as Alex Salmon lines up on the sideline.

99 minRED CARD! Tom Cairney is off, having dragged down Mark Beck before catching him with a trailling leg. It was a second booking, but he'd already picked up a yellow earlier on. Blackburn will have to defend their lead with 10 men.

100 minCHANCE! Beck is clearly pumped up from tangling with Cairney and almost gets Carlisle back on level terms with a powerful effort from just inside the box, but Eastwood just gets a hand to it.

102 minSUB! A break in play finally allows Salmon to come on, replacing Lewis Guy, who looks exhausted.

104 minCarlisle have really taken control of the game since Cairney's dismissal, and a dangerous ball in forces Morris to put the ball behind for a corner. The ball back in falls to Beck, but his header is just high.

105+1 minThere'll be one minute of added time at the end of the first half of extra time, as there was a bit of a delay for the Cairney sending off.

9.56pmHALF TIME: Carlisle 2-3 Blackburn

9.56pmMid-way through extra time, it's Blackburn who lead, but Carlisle have an extra man on the pitch following Tom Cairney's second yellow card.

9.57pmGary Bowyer is, naturally, not happy with Cairney's dismissal. At the change of ends he calls the referee over for a discussion, apparently asking for clarification on the red card incident.

106 minCarlisle get the action back underway.

107 minJosh King makes a careless challenge on Berrett to give Carlisle a free kick 25 yards out. Noble sends the ball in, but Eastwood makes a strong punch to get the ball clear. Jordan Rhodes immediately breaks looking to strike on the counter attack, but Gillespie is alert and buries the ball under his body before the Scot can get his attempt away.

109 minCHANCE! Symington survives some physical marking in midfield to find Salmon in space. Salmon passes back to Symington, who wrongfoots the keeper, before a second effort at an open goal from Salmon goes just wide. Carlisle are back on the attack though, this is positive, promising stuff from the League One side.

111 minNoble fires the ball back in for Carlisle, before Beck crosses it in, but Eastwood manages to pounce on the ball before it finds a Carlisle boot. The home side's extra man is counting at the moment, but they have less than 10 minutes to find the equaliser.

112 minKing shows that he still has plenty of pace left, breaking from midfield to take the ball into the Carlisle box, with Rhodes waiting in the middle, but he holds onto the ball for too long, and it goes behind for a goal kick.

114 minGOAL! Carlisle 3-3 Blackburn (Amoo)

116 minWow! Amoo adds his second goal of the night with a brilliant half-volley from the edge of the area to level the scores, and they're already pressing for a fourth. Carlisle are in the ascendancy now, can they wrap this up before penalties?

118 minBlackburn win a corner, but as Judge delivers the ball, the referee awards a free kick to Carlisle for a foul on Gillespie. Moments later, Lowe goes for goal, but Gillespie, this time un-hindered, is able to palm the ball away.

120 minSymington sends a probing ball forward, but Givet blocks the delivery. Carlisle re-group and get the ball through to Noble, who sees hit shot stopped by Eastwood. There will be two added minutes.

120+2 minJosh Morris tries to clear from a Carlisle corner but mis-kicks and is relieved as he sees the ball go over the crossbar in the final seconds of extra time.

120+2 minFULL TIME: Carlisle 3-3 Blackburn

10.15pmAfter 120 minutes there's still nothing between these two sides so it's time for penalties.

10.17pmGillespie will be confident, having already saved one spot kick this evening. However, David Dunn, who took the penalty, was substituted during extra time, so won't be taking another.

10.18pmAmoo will be hoping to add his third of the evening. He scored from the penalty spot during his Carlisle debut on Saturday.

10.19pmThe rival keepers, Gillespie and Eastwood, are deep in conversation ahead of the shootout while the managers and captains finalise who will be taking the kicks.

10.20pmBlackburn will go first, with Alan Judge taking the opener.

Carlisle 0-1 BlackburnIt's a confident penalty to the left-hand side from Judge. Gary Bowyer has his back to the pitch, he can't watch!

Carlisle 0-1 BlackburnAlex Salmon, on his Carlisle debut, sees the pressure get to him, slicing the ball well wide.

Carlisle 0-2 BlackburnJason Lowe sends Gillespie the wrong way with a carbon copy of Judge's kick.

Carlisle 1-2 BlackburnMark Beck gets Carlisle off the mark with the first penalty to the right-hand side.

Carlisle 1-3 BlackburnJordan Rhodes coolly slides his effort down the middle.

Carlisle 2-3 BlackburnJames Berrett also goes for the centre, with the same result.

Carlisle 2-3 BlackburnChris Taylor spoons it well high, Carlisle are right back in this.

Carlisle 3-3 BlackburnLiam Noble goes for power to the left-hand side to level the score.

Carlisle 3-3 BlackburnJosh Morris sends his penalty dead centre, but it's a little too high, and bounces back off the crossbar.

Carlisle 4-3 BlackburnDavid Symington goes down the middle too, and Carlisle are through!

10.27pmRESULT: Carlisle United 3-3 Blackburn Rovers (CARLISLE PROGRESS 4-3 ON PENALTIES

10.28pmThere was absolutely nothing between the two sides for much of the match, so how apt that a penalty hitting the crossbar should decide the game. Carlisle are quite rightly delighted with the result, which sees yet another Championship side exit the Capital One Cup in the first round.

10.31pmIf you want to catch up with the other results from the League Cup this evening, you can ready about Leeds and Notts County's wins right here at Sports Mole. That's all from Brunton Park this evening, thanks for joining me tonight. Goodbye!
