Feyenoord score two scrappy goals to beat Cambuur

Feyenoord held off a late fightback from Cambuur to secure a 2-1 win in the Eredivisie today.

In a frustrating first half for the hosts in Rotterdam, Cambuur defended well as they restricted Feyenoord to very few chances.

However, Feyenoord's pressure paid off shortly before the break when former Aston Villa midfielder Karim El Ahmadi slotted the ball in from close range after a goalmouth scramble.

They doubled their lead shortly after the break, when a another melee in the box saw the ball end up in the net off Colin Kazim-Richards's nose.

The afternoon looked to be getting worse for Cambuur when their top scorer, Bartholomew Ogbeche, was shown a straight red card for a dangerous tackle.

However, this seemed to wake them up as substitute Martijn Barto neatly fired a left-footed shot into the far corner to give them hope of a comeback.

Feyenoord were able to see the game out, though, and they thus move up to third in the table.
