Shanghai Shenhua make "breakthrough" with Tevez

Shanghai Shenhua president Wu Xiaohui has claimed that a "breakthrough" has been made in negotiations with Carlos Tevez.

Last month, it was reported that an unnamed club from the Chinese Super League were trying to make Tevez the best-paid player in the world and it has now been claimed in China that the team involved are Shenhua.

It has been suggested that they are willing to pay Tevez £33.4m per season, and Wu has gone on record as saying that they are trying to push through the transfer of the Boca Juniors striker.

He told Shenhua News: "We have done a lot of work [on trying to sign Tevez] and it's safe to say that there has been a definite breakthrough in the negotiations but for a variety of reasons, we have not sealed the deal.

"Their club have problems that are still yet to be resolved and I will spare you the details. We will continue to put greater effort into this and strive to give our supporters a pleasant surprise as soon as possible."

Tevez currently has less than two years remaining on his contract with the Argentine side.
