Shebby Singh hopes that new Blackburn Rovers manager Gary Bowyer isn't "clueless" like his predecessors.

Blackburn Rovers global advisor Shebby Singh has backed new manager Gary Bowyer to be a success at Ewood Park and not "clueless" like his predecessors.

The 41-year-old enjoyed two stints as caretaker boss last season following the sackings of Steve Kean, Henning Berg and Michael Appleton during the campaign.

Bowyer has since been handed a 12-month rolling contract by the club's owners, and Singh is hoping that the former Rotherham United man can raise the standards at the club.

"The big challenge is to now not encourage mediocrity. In my opinion, Gary has the support of the majority at the club unlike previous managers, who were pretty much clueless," Singh told the Lancashire Telegraph.

"The advantage that Gary has is from his two different stints being in charge he would certainly be aware that he had a very good squad that played with creativity and joy first time out.

"His second stint, which went through until the end of the season, had him dealing with a decimated average squad. I trust Gary will also not alienate players as previous managers did."

Rovers finished 17th in the Championship last season.
