Afternoon all! Sports Mole's live Euro 2016 coverage continues from Bordeaux as Austria take on Hungary in Group F's opening match. Later, Portugal will face Iceland in the same group, but our immediate focus is on a clash between these two old rivals. Let's hope for an entertaining contest!

Incredibly, this match will be the 138th international meeting between these two countries in all competitions. That said, only one of those fixtures has taken place in a major tournament and that was back in the 1934 World Cup, when Austria recorded a 2-1 win. There is simply no downplaying the importance of this match and both nations are well represented in terms of supporters this summer.

Right, without further ado, let me bring you up-to-speed with the all-important team news from Bordeaux. Who have Marcel Koller and Bernd Storck selected in their respective XIs? Let's have a look!

Plenty of familiar names in the Austria XI this afternoon, with Leicester City left-back Christian Fuchs captaining his country on what will be his 76th international appearance. Stoke City's Marko Arnautovic and Bayern Munich's David Alaba are also both included, while Marc Janko, who has scored 26 times in 54 games for Austria, leads the line with support from Zlatko Junuzovic.

As for Hungary, goalkeeper Gabor Kiraly becomes the oldest player to feature at the European Championships at the grand old age of 40 and 74 days! It will be Kiraly's 104th international appearance this afternoon, while former West Bromwich Albion midfielder Zoltan Gera starts at the age of 37. There will be just a sixth cap for Werder Bremen midfielder Laszlo Kleinheisler, while Adam Szalai and Krisztian Nemeth both start in what is an attacking formation for the Hungarians in Bordeaux.

So there we have it. The two teams are in and we are now just under 40 minutes from kickoff on this warm afternoon in Bordeaux. I shall speak about Hungary a little bit later, but let's start with Austria, who have qualified for their first ever European Championships. They did take part in Euro 2008, but automatically made the finals as the co-hosts alongside Switzerland. This tournament represents a first ever successful qualification campaign for Austria and they will be keen to get off to a strong start.

In 2008, Austria lost two of their three group matches and therefore exited the competition in the first round. Portugal, who face Iceland later tonight, will be expected to top Group F, but second place seems very open and finishing third could also be good enough to qualify for the round of 16 due to the new ruling – the four best-placed third teams will also make the next round alongside the top two from each of the six groups at Euro 2016. It is actually quite hard not to qualify if you win your first match!

Austria will enter this match off the back of a 2-0 friendly defeat to Netherlands on June 4 and they have actually only won two of their last five matches, which has included defeats to Switzerland and Turkey. They did impress during qualification, however, as they made the finals of Euro 2016 by topping Group G ahead of Russia and Sweden, who also both qualified for the competition.

Incredibly, Austria won nine of their 10 matches during qualification and only conceded five times in the process. Koller's team beat Russia 1-0 home and away and also recorded a 4-1 win over Sweden last September. In fact, between October 2014 and October 2015, they only lost one match and that was a narrow 2-1 defeat to Brazil in an international friendly. They could shock a few this summer!

In terms of what is to come, Austria will take on group favourites Portugal in their second match on Saturday, before finishing against Iceland on June 22. Victory this afternoon would make them the early group leaders and indeed place them in a strong position ahead of the Portugal clash. On the other hand, defeat here and a loss to Portugal would love them facing elimination.

As for Hungary, Stock's team have become the first Hungary side to qualify for the European Championships since 1972. The two-time World Cup runners-up competed in both Euro 1964 and Euro 1972 and managed a third-place finish and runners-up spot. They are not expected to advance that deep this time around, but will fancy their chances of getting out of the group if they can win here.

In terms of qualification, Hungary finished third in Group F behind Northern Ireland and Romania, which was good enough to secure a spot in the playoffs, where they overcame Norway 3-1 on aggregate to make the finals. In terms of pre-tournament results, Hungary lost 2-0 against world champions Germany on June 4 after holding African nation Ivory Coast to a goalless draw on home soil.

After this match, Hungary will take on Iceland on Saturday, before facing Portugal in their final Group F match on June 22. Due to the new third-place ruling, one win could well be good enough to secure a spot in the next round and Hungary might well view this match as their best chance to put three points on the board. It should be an open and entertaining game from Bordeaux.

KICKOFF! Austria get the first period underway here...

... POST! Oh my word! Austria come within inches of taking the lead inside the first minute as Alaba hammers one from distance, but his effort hits the inside of the post. Wow!

Hungary just have not been allowed to breathe in the opening three minutes as Austria continue to move the ball quickly in the final third. This could get ugly for Hungary if Austria manage to open the scoring in the very early stages. Can Austria challenge for the crown this summer? Why not!

Kleinheisler strikes one from distance as Hungary register an early attempt on target, but it was always a comfortable save for Almer in the Austrian net. Very lively start to this Group F clash.

The majority of matches at this summer's tournament have been very tight, but Austria might well fancy their chances of recording a comfortable victory this afternoon. That said, Hungary have recovered from that difficult start and are now enjoying a decent spell of possession here.

Much better from Hungary if the last couple of minutes as they play through the Austrian midfield before switching the ball to the left, but Kadar cannot find a teammate with a cross from the left.

CHANCE! Austria again come close as Arnautovic sets up Alaba inside the Hungarian box with a super pass, but the Bayern Munich full-back fires straight at Kiraly!

Kleinheisler fires one over the Austrian crossbar as the end-to-end period continues.

Austria have had the two best chances of this match, but Hungary are here to play and they look dangerous in the final third of the field, especially in wide positions. Just a reminder that Group F's second clash between Portugal and Iceland will kick off at 8pm tonight. Should be a good one!

Kleinheisler is the player making things happen for Hungary and smart work from the midfielder sees Szalai strike towards goal, but Dragovic is across to make a fine challenge once again.

Junuzovic might well be forced off here after replays show that he turned his foot the wrong way following a challenge with Gera. It must be said that the pictures were not pretty at all there.

Junuzovic is still receiving treatment off the field and it does seem unlikely that the midfielder will resume based on what the replays showed. That said, the Austrian medical team are trying to patch him up! Not too much to report in terms of chances as this first period continues to gather pace.

The match has definitely settled in the last 10 minutes or so, but unfortunately the excitement has died down following a quick start. Some sloppy passing from both teams at the moment here.

We have not seen too much from Austria striker Marc Janko in the opening 24 minutes and it is Hungary that are looking the more threatening in the final third. Szalai and Nemeth continue to pick up possession in dangerous positions and smart work from the latter sees Gera fire straight at Almer.

The referee has been busy in the last few minutes due to a series of late challenges.

Austria have a shout for a penalty as Junuzovic goes down inside the Hungarian box under contact from Fiola, but it would have been very harsh and the referee is not interested. Slightly better from Austria in the last couple of minutes, but they are just struggling in the final third at the moment.

To be completely honest, this game is lacking quality at the moment.

Austria have a free kick some 35 yards from goal as Junuzovic goes down under the challenge of Lang. No yellow card, but Austria have the chance to threaten from a dangerous set piece here...

CHANCE! Super chance for Hungary as Szalai rises unchallenged inside the Austrian box, but the number nine gets it all wrong and heads away from goal. Some opportunity there!

The match has once again come to life in the last few minutes, but it remains a difficult game for the referee as late challenges continue to arrive from almost every angle. It would not be a surprise to see a red card in the second period if this continues! Still goalless with 38 minutes on the clock.

Half-chance for Austria as Arnautovic comes close to meeting a loose ball inside the Hungarian box, but it just bounces away from the attacker at the vital moment. Hungary break down the other end, but the cross from Lang is straight into the arms of Almer. Much better tempo to the game now.

It has been a real battle in the middle of the park this afternoon and that remains the case as we approach the end of the first period. Still all square in this Group F clash in Bordeaux.

CHANCE! Austria break away and Arnautovic delivers a low cross towards Harnik, but there is just too much pace on the ball and the number 11 cannot make clean contact!

CHANCE! Wonderful chance for Hungary this time as Dzsudzsak finds himself unmarked inside the Austrian box, but the skipper can only drag his attempt wide of Almer's post.

Just the one additional minute to be played at the end of the first period.

So there we have it. The referee brings the first period to a close with the two teams level at 0-0. Overall, it has not been the best half of football at the European Championships, but both sides have had plenty of chances and it is a surprise that we enter the interval goalless in Bordeaux.

STATS! Hungary have just about shaded the possession with 53%, while they have had six attempts - two of which were on target. Austria, meanwhile, also managed two attempts on target from six shots. There have been a number of late challenges, but just one booking - Dragovic for Austria.

BENCH WATCH! Austria have a number of attacking options on their bench in Bordeaux, with the likes of Suttner, Okotie and Hinterseer all capable of making a difference. Hungary, meanwhile, have options in the shape of Priskin, Nikolic and Pinter. Will either manager look to his bench at the break?

RESTART! Hungary resume the action in Bordeaux...

... no changes from either side at the interval, which is not too much of a surprise. However, I suspect that both managers will have alterations in mind for the second period. Early strike for Fiola towards the Austrian goal, but it never had enough power to trouble Austrian stopper Almer.

You just get the feeling that one goal would be enough to win this match, which is a surprise when considering the opening five minutes, which were fast and full of purpose. Alaba breaks down the left for Austria before delivering towards Janko, but the striker cannot sort out his feet in time.

Austria are on the front foot at the moment as they continue to move the ball in the final third of the field. Hungary have shown their threat on the counter-attack, but the Austrian pace has risen.

Gera strikes one from distance for the Hungarians. but his effort was always wide.

Kiraly has been in control of the high ball this afternoon and the Hungarian again comes out to claim a cross from the right. Both teams have lacked quality with their final pass in this match.

SAVE! Wonderful strike from Dzsudzsak as the Hungarian captain sends one towards the top corner, but Almer is on hand to make a smart save. Would have been some goal there!

Just a reminder that Portugal take on Iceland in tonight's second Group F clash and to be honest, neither of those two teams will be worried with what they have seen in this match. Janko goes down for Austria after a heavy challenge with Kadar, but the number nine soon rises to his feet.

In truth, a goalless draw would not be the worst result for either of these two teams, but Austria would have expected to have collected all the points. They still might, but Hungary have been much better than a lot of people would have expected. Still all square with 62 minutes on the clock here.

Breakthrough! Hungary take the lead in the 62nd minute as Szalai collects a super pass from Kleinheisler before finishing under Almer from close range. First goal in 41 matches for Szalai!

AUSTRIA SUB! Okotie replaces Janko for Austria.

Austria are down to 10 men here as Dragovic picks up his second yellow card for a rash challenge on Kadar. It has all gone very wrong for Austria in the last five minutes or so!

It is all getting very heated, particularly in the stands, as Austria continue to search for an equaliser. You just get the feeling that there is going to be another goal in this Group F clash.

HUNGARY SUB! Priskin replaces Szalai for Hungary.

Nagy strikes one from distance as Hungary search for a second goal, but his effort was always moving over the crossbar. Little under 20 minutes of this fascinating match left to play here.

SAVE! Almer just manages to turn a Nemeth strike wide of the Austrian post!

CHANCE! Fuchs sets up Sabitzer inside the Hungarian box and the number 20 just has to hit the target, but he blazes his effort over the crossbar! What a chance!

Little under 15 minutes of this Group F clash remaining and you just get the feeling that there is another goal in this match. Austria are really pressing forward and that is leaving space for the Hungarians on the counter-attack. Up next, Portugal will take on Iceland in the same group.

Alaba looks to break down the left for Austria, but the Bayern Munich man gets his pass all wrong and Hungary can resume the play with a throw-in. It just has not happened for Austria's star players this afternoon and credit must be given to Hungary for a strong team performance in Bordeaux.
