Merson handed 14-month driving ban

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has been handed a 14-month driving ban.

The suspension was dealt to the 43-year-old after a court heard this morning how he crashed his Mercedes into a 38-tonne truck while over the legal alcohol limit on the M40 last October.

Leamington Spa Magistrates' Court also fined Merson £1,500 and ordered him to pay £105 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

The former England international suffered a head injury in the accident.
