Almeria appoint Barjuan

La Liga strugglers Almeria have appointed former Barcelona youth-team coach and player Sergi Barjuan as their new manager.

Barjuan, 43, whose first game in charge will be away to Barcelona on Wednesday, has replaced Juan Ignacio Martinez at the helm of the Spanish side.

Martinez only took charge of Almeria last December after leaving Real Valladolid at the end of the 2013-14 season, but the Spaniard was relieved of his duties following Saturday's 4-1 defeat at Levante.

Almeria have collected just 25 points from their 29 league games this season, with that total leaving them 18th in the table.
