Russian Federation's Yana Alborova: 'I made tactical mistakes in final loss'

Russian Federation's Yana Alborova has conceded that she made tactical mistakes in her defeat in the final of the women's individual foil at the European Games.

The 21-year-old lost 15-11 in the gold-medal match in Baku to Italy's Alice Volpi, and she has admitted that her opponent was better than her on the day.

Alborova told reporters: "It was not my first fight with Alice Volpi. I have lost to her before 15-14. Right now she is stronger than I am. I lost to her in juniors already.

"My mistakes were tactical. It was a lack of concentration, sometimes I rushed my attacks or I just was a little bit tired. I started catching up too late.

"For now this medal is my number one among others. This is the most beautiful and the heaviest medal I have."

Alborova will compete later in the Games in the women's team foil.
