Fencer Ana Maria Branza wins Romania's first European Games gold

Romania's Ana Maria Branza wins the women's fencing individual epee gold medal at the European Games in Baku.

Fencer Ana Maria Branza has won Romania's first gold medal of the European Games after triumphing in the individual epee.

The 30-year-old defeated Russian Federation's Yana Zvereva 15-11 in the final.

The fencers matched each other in the first round, with the scores level at four apiece. Zvereva took a two-point lead into the final round, but Branza scored seven points without reply in round three to claim the gold medal.

Romania's Simona Gherman and Estonia's Erika Kirpu won the bronze medals.
