English diver Tom Daley has insisted that it would be a "dream" to win Olympic gold after his place at London 2012 was confirmed.

The 18-year-old's place in the squad was confirmed following his victory in Sunday's individual 10m platform final at the GB Olympic diving trials.

"It's my dream to win Olympic gold. It feels great to be selected and I can't wait. To walk out in front of a home crowd in the Olympics is the pinnacle of anyone's sporting career," Daley told BBC Sport.

"Everyone seemed to think I had already qualified, but this is the first day I've been officially certain of my Olympic place. It's such a relief and it's great to know all that hard work has paid off.

"I know I've been training as hard as I can for the last year. I know I haven't missed any training sessions. It was good to prove a point. I have been working hard and it shows in my performances this year."

The Olympic diving events begin on July 29 and finish on August 11.
