Ross Haslam: 'I will learn from mistakes at Commonwealth Games'

Team England's Ross Haslam is confident that he will learn from the mistake which effectively cost him a medal in his first event at the Commonwealth Games.

Team England diver Ross Haslam has insisted that he will learn from the mistake which scuppered his chance of a medal in the men's 1m springboard at the Commonwealth Games.

Haslam was in contention for a podium place alongside compatriot and eventual gold medallist Jack Laugher after four dives, but an over-rotation on the fifth saw him score just 30.000 points, effectively ruling him out of the medals.

The 20-year-old - whose brother Jack Haslam was also involved in the final - eventually finished seventh, but believes that the experience will serve him well for his future events.

"I've got another two events. This was meant to be the warm-up event so it's done that job of getting me ready for competition and getting me ready for those first-dive nerves out of the way," he told Sports Mole.

"Hopefully we're going to go into the 3m synchro with a bit more confidence and finish it off like I want to. To be honest it's diving. You win some, you lose some - that's the nature of this sport.

"Some days you do great and some days you don't quite get there. I think it's case of just go get an early night, wake up tomorrow for the prelim and hope for the best."

While Laugher won gold for England in the event, Jack Haslam could only finish in eighth place.
