England's Tonia Couch to 'hold head high' after fifth-place 10m final finish

Tonia Couch insists that she will hold her head high after a 'disappointing' end to her Commonwealth Games in the women's 10m platform final.

English diver Tonia Couch has said that she will hold her head high after a 'disappointing' finish to her Commonwealth Games in the women's 10m platform final.

The 25-year-old admitted that she was disappointed to not score well on her second dive this evening, an inward three-and-a-half somersault, which saw her eventually end up in fifth place, 26.10 points adrift of the podium places.

Couch was going for her second medal of the Games after she won silver in the 10m synchro with long-time partner Sarah Barrow yesterday.

Even though the pair's medal was unexpected, they weren't in the happiest of moods immediately after the final as they felt that they had been scored harshly by the judges.

Couch insisted that her overriding emotion for the Games was happiness when asked how she would assess her overall performance at the Royal Commonwealth Pool Edinburgh.

She told Sports Mole: "That's a tough one really because obviously yesterday we weren't expecting a medal and we were so happy.

"Today, I'm happy, I'll keep my head held high because the rest of my dives were good today."

Couch and Barrow were in opposing moods after the preliminaries this morning when we asked how they were feeling about coming so close to gold last night, and Couch said that it was normal for them to react differently.

"We're really different, I'm quite loud and she's quite chilled so we deal with things different ways, but we work great as a team."

The pair improved their synchro performance at this year's Games after coming fourth in the 10m final in Delhi four years ago.
