Qin Kai says that he is "heartbroken" after defeat to Russia's Ilya Zakharov in the 3m springboard.

China diver Qin Kai has revealed that he was shocked after Russia's Ilya Zakharov beat him to gold in the men's 3m springboard to end China's 100% record on the board.

Zakharov nailed one of the hardest possible dives to take gold from the favourite Qin and the Chinese diver said that he was not good enough at the end of the competition.

"Who would have thought he would dive so well?" Qin told Reuters.

"Of course, last time I came third, this time I had the chance and I just feel like I didn't help China get the gold. I just feel heartbroken."

Qin's compatriot He Chong took bronze in the 3m event.
