Laura Trott suffering from kidney infection

Olympic champion cyclist Laura Trott reveals that she is suffering from a kidney infection which is hindering her Commonwealth Games campaign with Team England.

Team England cyclist Laura Trott has admitted that she is suffering from a kidney infection as she continues her Commonwealth Games campaign.

The 22-year-old has struggled for form during the Games as she failed to reach a medal race in the 3000m individual pursuit before finishing 11th in the 10km scratch race earlier today.

She told reporters: "I'm currently suffering from a kidney infection, which is unfortunate, as it's come at a really bad time.

"I'm here now so I may as well ride. I definitely don't think I should have ridden yesterday though – I really wasn't well at all. When I came off the bike I thought I was going to pass out and I completely regretted riding.

"But today I felt it was good for me to get stuck in and see how my legs actually were and to open them up for tomorrow. I spent a lot of yesterday in bed so I didn't want to just rock up and do the points race not having ridden the track."

Trott won two gold medals at the 2012 Olympics in London.
