Australia thrash West Indies inside three days

Australia secure a nine-wicket win in the first Test against the West Indies after the hosts scored just 364 runs in the match.

Australia have wrapped up a crushing nine-wicket win over the West Indies in the first Test in Roseau this evening.

The hosts had given themselves hope with a solid batting session in the afternoon, but Mitchell Starc and Nathan Lyon ensured that the tourists didn't need to chase a big target during the closing stages of day three.

Jermaine Blackwood and Marlon Samuels, who was the top scorer with 74, were both out shortly after the restart, before Starc sent Jerome Taylor and Shannon Gabriel packing for ducks, as well as bowling Devendra Bishoo for just one.

With the West Indies out for 216, Australia came back out to bat knowing that just 47 would secure the victory, and they needed just five overs as David Warner smashed 28 off 20 balls, before Steve Smith hit the winning runs.

Starc finished the second innings with bowling figures of 4-28, helping restrict the West Indies to a total of 364 runs in the match.
