Sri Lanka cruise to nine-wicket win over Pakistan

Half-centuries from opening pair Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva help Sri Lanka cruise to a nine-wicket win over Pakistan in the second Test in Dubai.

Sri Lanka made light work of chasing down 137 runs to record a nine-wicket victory over Pakistan in the second Test in Dubai.

Dimuth Karunaratne struck an unbeaten 62 and Kumar Sangakkara was also there at the end as the Lions took a 1-0 lead in the series with one match remaining with a victory set up by their bowling out of Pakistan for 165 in the first innings.

Mahela Jayawardene's century then helped them establish a 223-run lead and although Pakistan registered a much-improved total of 359 on their second visit to the crease, it was too little too late.

Trailing by 101 runs at lunch on day five, Sri Lanka's previously cautious openers went on the attack as Kaushal Silva joined Karunaratne in passing 50, only to then fall lbw to Saeed Ajmal for 58.

With the opening-wicket stand of 124 finally broken, Karunaratne batted through to see Sri Lanka home with his third Test match half-century, and captain Sangakkara got in on the act by hitting the winning runs off Ajmal with over a session of the match remaining.
