South Africa close in on unlikely win

India fail to take a single wicket in the afternoon session as Francois du Plessis (88*) and AB de Villiers (72*) guide South Africa towards victory in the first Test.

South Africa have reached 331-4 at tea to move within 127 runs of an unlikely first Test victory against India in Johannesburg.

The hosts began day five on 138-2, needing 319 runs to win, and lost the wickets of Alviro Petersen (76) and Jacques Kallis (34) before lunch.

In the afternoon session, India failed to break the stubborn resistance of Francois du Plessis (88*) and AB de Villiers (72*), whose partnership stands at 134 runs.

The Proteas have six wickets in hand and look on course to take a 1-0 lead in the two-game series.
