South Africa win opening Test over Pakistan

SA snatch first Test over Pakistan

South Africa have clinched the first Test of the series over Pakistan following a six-wicket haul in the morning session.

The Proteas were handed an advantage with the new ball following the first five overs, which Dale Steyn took full advantage of by dismissing Misbah-ul-Haq and Asad Shafiq in quick succession.

Despite Pakistan's battling display yesterday, the visitors were swiftly put out of contention when Sarfraz Ahmed went for two runs.

South Africa's bowlers continued to run riot by dismissing Saeed Ajmal for one and Umar Gul, who was caught out by AB de Villiers, who has now equalled the world record for most dismissals in a match by taking his 11th catch.

Pakistan were left needing 219 runs with just one wicket remaining but they were unable to reach their target as Junaid Khan was the last man to go.

South Africa won the Test by 211 runs.
