South Africa batsman AB de Villiers has claimed that Rilee Rossouw's innings inspired him to push on and score a record-breaking 162 in their World Cup Pool B match against the West Indies.
The Proteas sealed a mammoth 257-run victory in Sydney, which equals the record margin of runs in the tournament, set by India in 2007.
De Villiers watched Rossouw hit 61 off 39 balls and then he went on himself to reach the fastest ever one-day international 150 from just 64 deliveries.
"The credit had to go to the guys up front and Rilee's energy inspired me," ESPN quotes De Villiers as saying. "That affected me and I wanted to play like that and then I started timing the ball and it all came off.
"Watching the ball is very important - get to know your own game, play within your weaknesses and strengths and wait to play to your strengths. I read the situation, I try to read the bowler and I understand my own momentum and I earn the right to go after the bowlers."
South Africa are second in Pool B, level on points with first-placed India.
