AB de Villiers "very happy" with South Africa's fight to reach World Cup quarters

AB de Villiers praises the fighting nature of his South Africa team after they beat UAE by 146 runs to book their place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

AB de Villiers has praised his South Africa team for the manner in which they sealed a place in the quarter-finals of the World Cup.

The Proteas secured a comfortable 146-run victory over UAE in their Pool B clash in Wellington today.

De Villiers was named man of the match after scoring 99 runs off 82 balls in his innings, and also ended the clash with bowling figures of 2-15 in three overs.

"Very happy about today," BBC Sport quotes De Villiers as saying. "In the early stages of the match it moved around a bit and they made it difficult, so I was very happy with the way we fought, which is what I want to see as a captain.

"It's never just a given you are going to make the quarter-finals of the World Cup. We have a lot of people we are representing back home and we have a great opportunity."

India have also qualified for the final eight from Pool B.
