Matthew Maynard takes up Somerset role

Matthew Maynard has been appointed the new director of cricket of Somerset.

The 48-year-old has succeeded Dave Nosworthy, who has returned to his native South Africa.

"I'm very excited about being involved with such a talented group of players and I can't wait to get started," the former England assistant coach told the club's official website.

Maynard made four Test appearances for England during his playing career.
