Melbourne Renegades see off Brisbane Heat

Melbourne Renegades defeat Brisbane Heat by six wickets to maintain their unbeaten record in the Big Bash League.

Melbourne Renegades produced a stunning late surge to beat Brisbane Heat by six wickets.

Brisbane looked favourites to pick up their second win of the Big Bash League but Melbourne struck more than 10 runs per over for the remaining 30 balls to maintain their unbeaten record.

Brisbane recovered from a poor start to their innings to post a score of 133-7 after their 20 overs.

The Heat slumped to 27-3 before Thisara Perera struck a quick-fire 38 runs off 24 balls to take his side to 78-5 with eight overs remaining.

It appeared that Brisbane would struggle to set a competitive target after they had required 104 runs with just four overs left.

However, Ben Cutting struck 33 runs off 24 balls to leave Melbourne requiring 135 runs for victory.

The Renegades began their innings slowly and they could only muster 49 runs for the loss of one wicket at the halfway stage.

They needed to improve their run-rate but it came at a cost of two wickets as Aaron Finch and Marlon Samuels were dismissed.

The Brisbane bowlers were maintaining a tight line to leave the Renegrade still requiring 46 runs off the remaining four overs.

Tom Cooper let loose to score 13 runs off the 17th over to bring Melbourne to within 32 runs of victory but after a further maximum, he fell for 29.

However, Ben Rohrer and William Sheridan combined in the final three overs to score a flurry of boundaries to lead their side to victory with five balls to spare.
