Marcus Trescothick "excited" by Vernon Philander arrival

Somerset captain Marcus Trescothick has admitted that he cannot wait for Vernon Philander to join the county.

South African seamer Philander, who has taken 45 wickets in six Tests, will join Somerset in time for their first league match against Middlesex in April.

"The winter has been pretty good for us," Trescothick told Sky Sports News. "Philander has been absolutely outstanding in Test cricket so far.

"We are all excited about him coming over and seeing how well he can perform, because he has been the standout around the world."

Philander is expected to be named in the South African squad that is due to tour England later this year.
